Our Services

Seismic retrofitting ensures that lateral loads (forces) generated in an earthquake are transferred from your house to its foundation. In simple terms, we, as structural contractors, attach your house to its foundation. This involves far more than just foundation bolting—size, orientation and landscape must be taken into account. So too must shear panels and framing connectors.

Most homes in Portland have a poured-concrete foundation. Unfortunately, older poured foundations used a concrete that was mixed with unwashed sand, which degrades over time. With lack of structural integrity, these foundations can collapse —even without a minor temblor. Call us anytime to inspect your foundation.

Purchase Inspections

Whether you’re looking at a new home or an older home, we can help assess the structure free of charge. Our experienced team members will evaluate the quality of the foundation and the earthquake-readiness of the structure. This could save you thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars in your purchase.

Gas Valves

Historically, the fires following an earthquake have been responsible for more damage than the earthquake itself. Much of the peril comes from gas lines. Without a shutoff valve, broken gas lines can cause fires and even explosions. We regularly install a device called the Northridge 2000 which automatically shuts off your gas at the meter during a seismic event. The valve is calibrated to shut off at a magnitude of 5.2 or greater, and is easily reset without the need for a technician.
